Oak Lake

It wasn’t too long ago that I was wishing for spring to come, and now it’s almost summer. What happened to spring? I think it got caught wavering between late winter and summer- it was either cool and rainy, or hot and overly sunny. *sigh* Such is the weather in Nebraska. But once in a while, we get a nice day and have the time to take advantage of it.

Daytrippin’: Henry Doorly Zoo

I always try to go to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha at least once a year. Memorial weekend probably isn’t the best weekend, since it’s so busy, but we went anyway and had a great time. I got some of the best pictures I’ve ever taken there, so maybe it wasn’t so bad dealing with the crowds.

Just Another Strange Picture

From time to time, I wander around the various neighborhoods of Lincoln taking pictures of things I find interesting. It’s become a sort of project for me, to document the city. It seems to be changing so quickly these days.

Anyway. Just a quick picture of a little purple shed I saw a while back.

Travelogue: West Palm Beach, Florida

I do actually like roadtrips. Not the stiff-legged, getting out of the car after sitting there for five hours, or the sunburn on one arm because I forgot to put sunscreen on (yeah, sunscreen in the car. I am that obnoxiously white).  It’s the whole rolling through the American landscape, watching it shift from mile to mile, changing from prairie to hill to mountain; the stopping in various small towns and finding the completely unexpected weirdness in them (a giant statue of Superman in Metropolis, Missouri, for example).

Flowery writing aside, the No Coast Slam from Lincoln went to the National Poetry Slam in West Palm Beach, Florida last summer, and I  followed along because there seemed to be no other photographers they organizers could find who were willing to work a week’s worth of crazy hours for no pay.

So the competition parts of the week took place in the evenings and nights, so I pretty much had the days free to wander around parts of West Palm Beach.

The day we left, I went to bed somewhere around 3 a.m., and got up a couple of hours later to find my way to the ocean. I’d decided early on that, at some point during the week, I was going to watch sunrise on the beach. After navigating an unfamiliar city, I found my way back to the beach and spent a good hour there, watching the sun come up, dodging the tide, and keeping sea creatures from gnawing on my toes.

Details, Details

It’s the little things that count.

Okay, maybe not so much in a wedding- there are bigger things, like a ceremony, a bride, and a groom. But the little things are important, too.

Just Another Pretty Picture

So I’ve caught my first cold in something like two years. It wouldn’t be so bad if my eyes would stop watering so badly. I like being able to see.

I had a different series of blogs in mind for the next few days, but I just don’t feel up to doing much of anything tonight, so I’ll just post a pretty picture. Enjoy.
